[Opinion] Barrister Abduahi: the silent achiever

I have been following the political activities of Sen. Abdullahi Idriss Umar, since when he was a senator up to his former ministerial appointment. I had, on different occasions, discussed with several people about his workaholism, trustworthiness, integrity and good intentions toward the progress of youths and the general public of Gombe Central entirely.

I was, oftentimes, astounded by his choice to be silent achiever instead of heralding his political perfomance. I had learned that his attention was majorly focused on the most pressing needs of people in order to give them effective service and without looking out for their applauses. I guess, this is absolutely good in real life, but it seems like a suicide in the political arena.

Barrister Abdullahi possessed extraordinary capacities and qualities, enough to qualify him for any public office - be it, in the state or at the national level - his previous marvelous performance in the national assembly cleared any doubt about his competency. We can justify that by looking at the quantum of accountability and transparency in his track records.

It is almost a month, I started to notice an ill-nurtured campaign against him on social media. The campaign which’s maliciously purported to mislead people with propaganda - attaching Mr. Zero Project to his name ridiculously.

Gombe central, as a senatorial zone, consist two local governments; Yamaltu Deba and Akko. Although, democratically, everyone who attained the requirements, from both LGAs, has the right to contest the the seat, on the other hand, there’s agreement on power rotation between the duo. As Akko LGA, spent three tenures on the seat, it is therefore a great chance for Y/Deba take over in 2023.

Barrister Abdullahi's aspiration to contest senatorial seat, re-raised hope for the return of power to Yamaltu Deba. however, for some narcissistic politicians, it is a great dilemma, since it will not allow them to pursue their selfish agenda for retaining power till death. For that reason, they have no choice but to use propaganda to tarnish his image.

As a good citizen of Gombe central, I personally don’t support any move to retain senatorial seat in Akko, for my reasons that the seat should be rotational to allow the two LGAs have balanced chance. I know, I may sound extremist for choosing my Local Government over the other, eventhough, I voted the son of that LGA thrice.

The incumbent senator himself, appeared in a viral video, promising to step down to let other qualified aspirants try their luck, but, he later makes a u-turn in order to sustain political relevance. He also indirectly sponsored new campaign tittled “Dawo-Dawo” which was intended to deny the return of the seat to Y/Deba.

My attention was drawn to some people, who were mislead by that sham agenda of “Dawo-Dawo” in support of the one arrogant and power-hungery politician who called himself a political leader of Gombe State. Honestly, I don’t think a true citizen of Gombe Central would, in any way, support his bid for re-election – he took enough from us. Therefore it is right time for us to unite and fight for our rights.

Actually, amongst all the senatorial aspirants, especially in Y/Deba. Barrister is the only capable person that can easily win the seat. To be frank, if we look at his good records and manifestations, we will understand that he is the competent man for the job.

As a senator then, who represents two local governments or as a minister in the past administration. Barrister gave maximum opportunity to his constituents and touched the lives of countless people – with intensive focus on project that has lasting effect on the future of society. A number of Youths got educational scholarships through him, in home and abroad. He also secured employments for many people in various ministries, parastatals etc. In addition, he had some other projects such as Schools renovation and building of class rooms, Women empowerment, Borehole construction and Electricity wiring to villages and so on and so forth.

Nevertheless, with all the above achievements in human development, some people got the audacity to called him Mr. Zero project. I don’t blame them, for I know, they must doing it out of knowledge. Perhaps, some of them might have done it with malice.

Finally, as times flies, I know that one day Barrister's projects will emerge in front of everyone and when it happen, his opponents would be forced to bury their hatchets and surrender before him. To my surprise, it begins to happen. The release of the list of people who got employments via him, eventually changed the perspectives of many of his antagonists. They said that, their animosity was out of knowledge about his achievements. In a nutshell, Mr. Zero Project turned out to be Silent achiever.
